About the series
The Search for Canada's Next Designer is a new Canadian reality competition series airing on Gusto since October 16, 2016. The series contains six half-hour episodes, is executive produced by Michelle Crespi, co-executive produced by John Simpson, and hails from Bell Media. The judges this season are Alicia Carroll of IKEA Canada, with the likes of television personality Lainey Lui, renovation expert Sebastian Clovis and celebrity chef Robert Mooking, Andrew Pike on the guest judge list. The show is hosted by Tommy Smythe, the design expert previously seen on The Marilyn Denis Show.
Six up-and-coming Canadian designers compete on this elimination-style reality series. They utilize various IKEA Canada products in undertaking variously themed décor challenges in order to win the highly desirable design contract with IKEA Canada and a wonderful trip to Sweden. Every week the participants face a complex challenge that puts their skills to the ultimate test.
Current season and chances of prospects
The current season features the following six designers willing to take on the challenge: Christopher, an interior designer, Joey, the owner of his very own Joey Vogel Interior Design, entrepreneur and YouTube vlogger Marcy, Martha, who is an engineer and lead designer at Hedgeford & Berkley, Natalie, who owns Nest Design Studios and television art director Victoria.
