Production info and plot
A new American criminal drama series, Eyewitness is adapted from the Norwegian series Øyevitne. It is developed by Adi Hasak, executive produced by Hasak, Jari Emsell Larsen, Catherine Hardwicke, Jackie de Crinis and Scott Peters, and produced by Adi TV Studios and Universal Cable Productions. Eyewitness received a straight-to-series order, and premiered on October 16, 2016.
The show centers on two gay teenagers, Philip (Tyler Young) and Lukas (James Paxton), who inadvertently witness the murder of several people at an isolated cabin in upstate New York. Sheriff Helen Torrance (Julianne Nicholson) is warned to stay away from the investigation of the crime by FBI agent Kamillah Davis (Tattiawna Jones). The headstrong sheriff is relentless, and the crime turns out to be a much larger-scale incident than anyone could have thought.
Viewership and renewal prospects
The show has a solid 7.2/10 IMDb rating and a score of 82% on Rotten Tomatoes. It has premiered to an audience of 0.77 million viewers, and subsequently slid to approximately 0.6 million viewers per episode. It has garnered mostly positive reviews, and is praised for the complex, if a bit derivative, storyline and excellent acting work. Besides, there is a coming-out story embedded in the criminal plot, which is approached in a sensitive and compelling manner. USA Network has not announced its plans for the future of Eyewitness, but it definitely has enough potential for another season to be commissioned. Additionally, creator Adi Hasak has revealed in an interview that the series was originally sold to the network as an anthology series, with a second series following a different storyline with new characters. Stay tuned, and we will inform you when a decision is revealed.
