Program cast and storyline
A new reality series launched by Freeform, Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After? features Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell who were originally introduced to the television audience in the 20th season of The Bachelor. The final rose was awarded to Lauren, and hereby the televised romance ended and the real life began. The show is produced by Next Entertainment and Warner Horizon Television and executive produced by Mike Fleiss, Martin Hilton and Jason Ehrlich, with co-executive production effort from Jack Mori. The first season premiered on October 11, 2016.
Ben and Lauren are the fan favorite couple publicly engaged for under a year and about to tie the knot, The Bachelor's (unlikely) success story... or are they? The recent episodes of the reality series demonstrate that neither of the two may be as committed to their relationship as we would like them to be. With wedding planning supposed to be in order, the couple, especially Ben, seems to avoid it at all costs, and very successfully at that.
Ratings and renewal potential
There are plenty of signs that there may not be a future ahead for Ben and Lauren as a couple, and it's actually understandable and very human. People mostly sign up for reality dating shows like The Bachelor in order to have a good time, become recognizable and amass a numerous Instagram following, not to actually get married to someone they don't know that well. The series premiered to 407,000 viewers with a 0.17 demo rating, and three weeks later almost 300,000 fans are tuning in, with the demo rating edging down to 0.13. Will the couple make it through to the wedding? Will there be another season to follow them in their “after” life? Stay tuned for the latest information.
