Production info and storyline
Frequency is a new mystery and sci-fi drama series that debuted on The CW on October 5, 2016. Based on Frequency by Toby Emmerich, the show is developed by Jeremy Carver, executive produced by Brad Anderson, Jeremy Carver, Toby Emmerich, Jennifer Gwartz, Dan Lin and John Rickard, and hails from Jeremy Carver Productions, Lin Pictures, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Television.
Police officer Raimy Sullivan discovers that she is able to communicate with her deceased father Frank through an old ham radio struck by a lightning. He speaks from 1996, the year he was to die in an undercover police operation, and she is in 2016, trying to avert his death. She does manage to prevent his untimely end, yet among the results of the butterfly effect is the fact that Raimy's mother is no longer present in 2016 and that she is no longer engaged to Daniel, moreover, has never met him. Undoing the damage she has done takes a lot of work on both sides of the time channel.
Reviews and chances of renewal
The series was met with generally positive reviews, debuting to 1.35 million live viewers (2.08 million total viewers), and is currently drawing an impressive average audience of approximately 1 million viewers per episode. With an 8/10 on IMDb and 74% on Rotten Tomatoes, the show seems to be heading straight for a second season renewal. The solid performances and an intriguing premise have strong potential for the future, so enjoy the show and stay tuned for announcements.
Season 1 recap
The freshman season of The CW's mystery drama Frequency has wrapped up on January 25, 2017. The viewership has declined throughout the thirteen-episode run from 1.35 to 0.79 million viewers for the season finale. The season finale was appropriately full of gripping action, standoffs and time-traveling. Raimy and Frank take a tour back to 1996 to check on Joe with Robbie and Meghan. Robbie kills Meghan, murders Gordo's father, shoots Frank, destroys the ham radio and manages to escape. Raimy is glad to see the 2016 present relatively unaltered, and thus the series ends for now, leaving enough possibilities should the network decide to renew Frequency, but wrapping it nicely enough, should this be the series' conclusion. The reviews from both critics and viewers are mostly positive, and the chances of a second season are reasonable, so please stay tuned, and find out when any announcements are made by the network.
Latest news
UPDATED December 9, 2016: The CW's freshman sci-fi drama Frequency has aired its midseason finale episode on December 7, 2016, scoring a surprising season low of 0.85 million viewers. The series' major Raimy allowed Deacon to get away after he is revealed to be the Nightingale killer, so the next episode will inevitably be dealing with the aftermath of this revelation. The series has not received an order for additional episodes, which would have made it a full 22-episode season, and will not go beyond the initial 13-episode commission. The show will begin broadcasting the remaining four episodes on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, so please sign up for our automatic updates, and we will remind you of the midseason return date for Frequency one day in advance.
