Series' storyline and cast
An Amazon original scripted historical drama series, Good Girls Revolt debuted on the streaming platform on October 28, 2016 with its 10-episode freshman season. Based on real events and adapted from an eponymous book by Lynn Povich, the show is executive produced by Lynda Obst and Jeff Okin and hails from Lynda Obst Productions, Annabelita Films, Farm Kid, TriStar Television and Amazon Studios.
The series begins in 1969 New York and focuses on a group of young female researchers working at the News of the Week magazine – Patti (Genevieve Angelson), Cindy (Erin Darke) and Jane (Anna Camp). Their personal and professional lives at the time of the truly revolutionary changes in the American society reflect the large-scale cultural revolution going on around them. The status of women is of particular interest to the creators, and the actual landmark workplace equality suit that was brought forward in 1970 is at the center of the plot. Pervasive sexual harassment also plays a significant part in portraying the shifting reality of 1970s gender politics.
Impressive reception and renewal potential
The show's receiving excellent reviews that note the series' significance in clarifying the fact that despite the seemingly revolutionary changes that took place in regard to gender discrimination in the last five decades, not much has, in fact, changed. Besides the social impact of Good Girls Revolt, its main positive aspect is the powerful female leads. However, practically everyone agrees that in the inevitable comparison of the series to Mad Men, Good Girls Revolt loses the battle. It does, however, have solid review aggregator scores of 7.3/10 on IMDb and 78% on Rotten Tomatoes. It seems to certainly have enough strength to last, and we would be surprised if the show was discontinued.

UPDATED December 2, 2016: Amazon's freshman period drama Good Girls Revolt did not manage to survive past its first season, as it came to light today. The reasons for such hasty cancelation are not immediately clear, since there is data suggesting that the series did gain traction with the audience. In any case, Sony Television, the company behind the series is already shopping the show around in an attempt to find it a new home, so please stay tuned and we will inform you if anything works out.
