A weekly standup comedy show on Comedy Central, The Meltdown with Jonah and Kurmail has been on the air since 2014, and is currently in its third season, which premiered on September 28, 2016. It is produced by Red Hour Films, Literally Fugitive ad Johnny Videogames and is filmed at the Nerdist Showroom of Meltdown Comics in California. The show is hosted and executive produced by Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani with Ben Stiller, Deborah Liebling, Emily V. Gordon, Stuart Cornfield and Mike Rosenstein. Each of the seasons is comprised of eight episodes.
The series features live stand-up performances from the biggest names in the current alternative comedy scene as well as the up-and-coming comedians. Each of the episodes revolves around a particular theme that the hosts discuss, interspersed with sets from their guests. The third season has already seen appearances from many well-known comics, such as Maria Bamford, Martha Kelly, David Wain, the Lucas Brothers, Paul F. Tompkins, Steve Agee and many others.
Viewership and likely renewal
The current season debuted with 248,000 tuning in, and a 0.13 demo rating, and not only remained just as solid, but actually went up in viewership, with 295,000 viewers and a 0.15 rating in the 18-49 demo. The Meltdown is popular, it has a 7.4/10 IMDb rating, and we think that it will probably be renewed for another season, and then some. It is a favorite with comedy fans, with the only complaint being that the show is too short. Stay tuned for network announcements, but there seems to be no reason to worry about the future of The Meltdown.
