About the show
On September 21, 2016 BBC Two’s veteran documentary series Coast has begun airing its 11th series. The popular program focuses on the British coastline, its natural history as well as the social aspects tightly connected to it. It is a co-production of Open University and BBC Productions Birmingham and is executive produced by Gary Hunter, William Lyons, Gill Tierney and Emma De’ath, with Nicholas Crane as the lead presenter. The veteran program, which has been on the air since 2004, has spawned an Australian spinoff.
The current series is slated to contain eight episodes, which so far have centered on Cornwall, Southern Wales, the South East and East Anglia. Besides geography expert Nicholas Crane and archaeology and social history expert Neil Oliver, there are numerous regular presenters who are experts in specific fields: Alice Roberts (anthropology and geology), Mark Horton (marine archaeology), Miranda Krestovnikoff (zoology), Dick Strawbridge (engineering), Hermione Cockburn (general), Tessa Dunlop (social history), Adam Henson (farming), Andy Torbet (general), Ruth Goodman (social history) and Ian McMillan (general).
