The Night Of is an American criminal drama series adapted from Peter Moffat’s British TV series Criminal Justice. It has premiered on HBO on July 10, 2016.The show is created and written by Richard Price and Steven Zaillian and executive produced by Zaillian, Price, Jane Tranter, James Gandolfini and PeterMoffat. BBC Worldwide Productions, Bad Wolf and Film Rites are behind the production of the eight-part series..
The series has been in the works since 2012, with James Gandolfini passing away in the process, and in March 2016 the debut of the project was finally announced. The series follows he consequences of one seemingly average night. Nasir “Naz” Khan picks up a woman, Andrea in his father’s cab. Following a wild night with her Nasir awakens, sees her body with multiple stab wounds, and realizes that he has no memories of last night’s events. He is subsequently arrested for a traffic violation, but the clues from the murder scene point to him, and he is charged with murder. Naz’s ordeal in prison that follows and the course of investigation is at the center of the plot.
Fantastic reviews and strong renewal potential
The Night Of is a rare instance of a series whose viewership has significantly increased following the premiere. The first episode drew an audience of 0.774 million viewers, while the second episode saw an increase of almost 40%, with viewership remaining steadily at that level since. Zaillian has mentioned that the creators and producers are not ruling out the possibility of a second season, and if we take great viewership numbers and unanimously top-notch ratings (9.1/10 on IMDb, 90% on Metacritic, 95% on Rotten Tomatoes) into account, a cancelation seems out of the question. HBO's highly acclaimed freshman criminal drama The Night Of has triumphantly concluded its first season broadcast on August 28, 2016. The season finale attracted a very impressive audience of 2.158 million viewers, which is actually a incredible three-fold increase from the season premiere viewership. It has been quite a journey for Naz this season, and he is finally exonerated by the jury in the final episode, although the identity of the killer remains ambiguous. The open ending leaves plenty of opportunities for the second season to start with, although if the series is renewed, the creators may very well choose to portray another case, as the UK version did. HBO has been tight-lipped about the potential renewal of the show, but numerous fans are already eagerly awaiting a renewal announcement, and we will be sure to bring you the news as soon as comes out.

😭 I'll Never Forgive HBO for canceling 'The Night Of'.
But… now leaving pretty devastated after finding out a 2nd series has been cancelled- storyline etc .. fabulous.. tension .. fabulous.. the cast were absolutely super & lived their parts .. absolutely!
