The very first Christmas Special of Gogglesprogs premiered to an audience of 3.95 Million viewers and the first episode of the first season debuted to 2.6 Million viewers, which then dropped to an average of 1.6 Million per episode. The premiere of the second series drew in a very strong 2.87 Million and dropped thereafter to less than half. The overall rating of 8.2 out of 10 stars confirms the huge popularity of the show and with all the spinoffs and huge hype around the original grown-up series Gogglebox it is highly likely that this version will survive another season. However, so far Channel 4 has not yet made any official announcement regarding the future of the show. So, stay tuned and we will keep you posted if Gogglesprogs returns with Series 3 and when.
Series background and premise
Gogglesprogs is a British reality television series, a junior version spinoff of the wildly popular Gogglebox. The program has originally premiered as a 2015 Christmas special, and on the heels of its success was commissioned for a full series. It is produced by Studio Lambert (Faking It, Wife Swap, The Secret Millionaire), and has debuted on June 17, 2016 on Channel 4 with its first season containing 6 episodes, before being renewed after yet another Christmas Special for a second series, which premiered on June 9th, 2017 with six brand new episodes. Tania Alexander serves as the executive producer.
The format of the show is identical to that of Gogglebox, with children in the front seat – they are watching all kinds of television programs – from animated films and animal documentaries to political programs and even a documentary film on Donald Trump (which was not an audience favorite with the young viewers, by the way, with one girl remarking that he must have a black heart). The kids are ethnically diverse and of different ages, but all of them are outspoken and hilarious.
