Series' background and format
A spinoff of the popular eponymous Earwolf network podcast, Comedy Bang! Bang! Is a television series airing on IFC. It is created and hosted by the author of the original podcast, Scott Aukerman and co-hosted by “Weird Al” Yankovic. The series has been on the air since 2012, and the 20-episode fifth season premiered on June 3, 2016. It is produced by Comedy Bang! Bang! Productions, Earwolf Media, Abso Lutely Productions and IFC Original Producitons, with Scott Aukerman, Dave Kneebone, Leo Allen, Neil Campbell and Benjamin Berman serving as executive producers.
Conversations with talking inanimate objects (including houseplants, the couch and the taxidermy) and celebrity guests (as themselves and random characters), comedy sketches, animated inserts and musical numbers are all a part of the program's format. Many of the guests have previously appeared on the podcast, and the extensive guest roster includes Bob Odenkirk, David Cross, Paul F. Tompkins, James Adomian, Andy Daly, Kevin Bacon, Joel Osment, Nick Kroll and many, many others.
Acclaim, declining ratings and renewal prospects
The series is praised as hilarious, strangely appealing, offbeat and – repeatedly – fantastic. However, the show's ratings have been steadily declining, especially in the fourth and the current fifth season, where the viewership has not reached the 100,000 mark even once. The show is definitely not for everybody, but if you are into this type of humor – you'll be hooked. Are there enough viewers hooked for the show to keep going? Hopefully it'll stay around considering its unique style. No announcements have been made yet regarding the renewal of the series, so stay tuned and we'll keep you informed.

UPDATED August 18, 2016: With the second part of fifth season still waiting to air on October 28, 2016, IFC has made a decision to cancel its late night talk show/comedy series Comedy Bang! Bang! after the upcoming season wraps up. The series has acquired a cult following, with its surreal take on life, but has not delivered numbers that could make it last any longer than it did. It has hit lows of 11,000 viewers and a 0.0 demo rating in its previous season, but attracted famous personalities, and was significant for that reason. Well, it was an amazing run, thank you, Comedy Bang! Bang!
