As far as we’re concerned, there aren’t enough of these fantastically informative shows out there. Sure, there is the veteran series Modern Marvels that has been on the air since 1995 and the beautifully and simply produced How It’s Made, but there is so much progress in technology and everything surrounding us, it would be very nice to keep learning about all of these advancements. Having said that, this show has already 22 long seasons on its back and something tells me that it will keep going for a long while yet. Currently, How It’s Made scores a solid 7.8 out of 10 stars on IMDb and a whopping 8.8 out of 10 stars on TV.com. To date, the network has not yet officially cancelled or renewed the series for an upcoming installment, so stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated if and when How It’s Made returns with season 23.
Basic info
One of the most informative and educational programs on television today, How It’s Made originally made its debut back in 2001 and has since been renewed for overall 22 seasons. The show airs on the American Science channel and on the Discovery Channel in the UK and Canada. Created by Gabriel Hoss, the series is currently presented by Lynne Adams. The latest season 22 premiered on June 22nd, 2017 with brand new episodes (or 30th if you are in the UK or Canada, since the chapters are numbered differently, although the episode order is exactly the same).
The show takes a closer look at the production of a few things - from simple and straightforward shoelaces and wood panels to much more complex flood gates and basketballs. It literally does what the title suggests and looks into the sometimes very intricate and complicated ways of how things are made. Everything is featured and to simplify dubbing for international broadcasts, the show avoids on-screen narration and very rarely has anyone interviewed on camera. The emphasis is made on the visual demonstration of various stages of manufacturing. Each half-hour episode includes three or four segments about different items, which include everything from LED tubes, commercial drones, wooden matches, mosquito coils, skateboard wheels, condoms and lemon tarts, among others. Some of the items are rather complex, others very simple, with history background notes given for some of the objects.
