During Netflix's fan event in São Paulo, Brazil, it was revealed that Linda Hamilton will be joining the cast of Stranger Things for its fifth and final season.

The announcement of Hamilton's casting was made on Saturday, but no specific details regarding her character have been disclosed at this time.

Linda Hamilton is widely recognized for her iconic role as Sarah Connor in the Terminator franchise, with her most recent appearance in 2019's Terminator: Dark Fate. Her remarkable talent has earned her an Emmy nomination and two Golden Globe nominations for her work in the CBS series Beauty and the Beast, while her performance in USA Network's A Mother's Prayer garnered her a third Golden Globe nomination. Because of the writers' strike, preparations for the fifth and final season of "Stranger Things" have been put on hold.

The Duffer brothers, who are the show's co-creators and co-showrunners, posted a statement over the weekend on the writers' room account for the Netflix series.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike on May 2 in an effort to get studios and streaming services to improve their pay and make other concessions.

Stranger Things season 5 is officially underway, with the Stranger Things writers' Twitter account confirming the news by posting a picture of a white board with the series logo captioned 'Day 1'.

The Duffer brothers flat-out told Variety that the wait shouldn't be as long this time, but also, they haven't started filming yet. So we'd estimate a year and a half, which would put the show in early 2024. (David Harbour, who plays Hopper, is guessing mid-2024.)
