A modern take on a classic novel
A BBC One period drama series loosely based on Dumas' The Three Musketeers. The program is created by Adrian Hodges and executive produced by Hodges and Jessica Page. It has premiered in 2014 with the current third series beginning its broadcast on May 28, 2016. Each series is comprised of 10 episodes.
It's the 1630s, and the musketeer crew – Athos (Tom Burke), Porthos (Howard Charles) and Aramis (Santiago Cabrera) take d'Artagnan (Luke Pasqualino) under their wing. Captain Treville (Hugo Speer) is the noble leader of the musketeers, whose chief goal is to protect their country and their king – Louis XIII (Ryan Gage). The rest of the cast includes Peter Capaldi (Cardinal Richelieu), Alexandra Dowling (Queen Anne), Tamla Kari (Constance Bonacieux) and Maime McCoy (Milady de Winter).
Viewership and chances of renewal
The Musketeers' original premiere was seen by an audience of 9.28 million viewers. The first series has quickly lost a lot of its viewers, bowing out to 5.27 million, while the current third series premiered to an audience of 3.68 million fans. The strong IMDb score of 7.8/10 indicates positive reviews, with viewers raving about this spectacular modern take on Dumas' classic novel. However, to the utter disappointment of the series' fans, The Musketeers has been canceled by BBC One even prior to the third season premiere. It is unfortunate that since the departure of Peter Capaldi BBC One seemed to have given up on the series, moving it around the schedule in the second series, as the result of which the viewership ratings kept sliding lower. In any case, the show had a solid 3-series run, and we are grateful to its creators and stars.

Please reconsider continuing with the original cast. I know you'll have an incredible response of loyal fans old and new!! Please.
disappoint. Yes, some of the sets were lacking visually and the episodes might not be "historically" accurate. The actors more than made up for these. Their own character development and portrayals were spot on!

"All for one, one for all." I will miss this particular version of the Musketeers.
Make a movie atleast. Maybe there are not enough fans into these type of shows. But I mean it when I said it was the best show.
PLEASE RECONSIDER AND PUT QUALITY TV FIRST! So many of the other shows on BBC do not meet the same high standard as Muskateers. What are you thinkin?
From a big M-fan watching the show in South Africa
