Series info and plot
Undercover is a six-part UK thriller drama television series co-produced by BBC and BBC America, which premiered on April 3, 2016. BAFTA-winning screenwriter Peter Moffat is behind the series, while Moffat and Hilary Salmon serve as executive producers.
Maya Cobbina (Sophie Okonedo), QC is a British criminal law barrister and human rights activist who has been fighting to prove the innocence of Rudy Jones (Dennis Haysbert), a death row prisoner in Louisiana. When she's considered for the position of Director of Public Prosecution, her private life comes under detailed scrutiny, and too much is revealed about her own past, as far as twenty years back. Maya's husband Nick Johnson (Adrian Lester) turns out to be an undercover police officer who was investigating her, before getting involved in a relationship. The script is based on real-life stories of British police officers who found themselves in similar situations.
Critical reception and potential renewal
The series has received critical acclaim and has premiered to an audience of 5.2 million viewers, which is a 24.1% share of the audience. The reviewers praise the unpredictable, intense, fast-paced storyline, Sophie Okonedo's compelling performance and the ways in which the series approaches challenging and controversial issues that the modern society faces. This gripping tale of betrayal and corruption has excellent chances of getting picked up for another series, so we will monitor the announcements closely and keep you informed.
