Togetherness is a dramedy series airing on HBO since January 2015, with a second season that premiered on February 21, 2016. The show is created by Jay and Mark Duplass and Steve Zissis, mostly written and directed by the Duplass brothers and produced by Duplass Brothers Productions. Both seasons contain 8 half-hour episodes each.
The series takes on the subjects of love, marriage and friendship as reflected in the life of two couples living under the same roof. While the premise is not particularly original, the execution is somewhat different, wherein the sexual underside of relationships comes more into focus than it usually does in shows of similar format. Togetherness doesn't strive for exaggerated drama to impress its viewers, but rather zooms into the small things that life and relationships consist of.
Reviews, ratings and potential renewal
With a 7.5/10 score on IMDb, 79% on Metacritic and a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it seems that Togetherness is here to stay for quite a while. Viewers love the small, crafty stories that feel real. The series portrays the characters in a very delicate manner, not just as functions of the plot, but as truly relatable, multidimensional beings. The current season premiered to 430,000 viewers, with the second and third episodes scoring 336,000 and 321,000 viewers respectively. With the universal acclaim from critics and viewers alike there's practically no doubt that we will indeed see a third season of Togetherness in the future.

Updated March 28, 2016: The popular and fairly well-rated HBO dramedy Togetherness has been canceled after two seasons. The decision is an unexpected one, as things seemed to have been looking upwards for the show – the critics were positive, the viewers happy, the ratings reasonable, with an average of 330,000 live viewers per episode. Apparently, the series did not rank high enough to compete with other HBO hits. The series creators expressed their gratitude to the fans for continued support and recognized that Togetherness was indeed a narrow niche show. The season 2 finale on April 10, 2016 will now serve as the series finale.
