ABC (AU) Pulls the Plug on Season 2 of Hatch, Match and Dispatch

About the series

An Australian documentary television series Hatch, Match and Dispatch is a behind-the-doors look at the daily routine of staff at the Office of Births, Deaths and Marriages. The series, which is set to contain eight half-hour episodes, debuted on ABC AU on February 11, 2016. It is executive produced by Craig Graham and produced by Fredbird CDK Pty Limited and Essential Media & Entertainment.

Birth, marriage and death are the biggest events of our lives, and there is always a swarm of moving, romantic, funny or tragic stories connected to these events. The staff at the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages is there to help people deal with pain, joy and vulnerability that are typical of these landmark events. The premiere episode features a very nervous young couple, where the pregnant bride is close to delivery who have come to tie the knot and a young woman who has come to get an official birth certificate, having just found that she was adapted.

Current season and renewal prospects

The core cast at the BDM Registry deals with issues of tradition, religion and various cultures on a regular basis and from different angles. The narratives are not confined to the Registry, they unfold in maternity wards, hospitals, cemeteries, funeral parlors and people's homes, where the filming crews follow the stories as well. It's difficult to predict at this point whether the viewership ratings of Hatch, Match and Dispatch will warrant a renewal of the series for a second series.
