Series concept and host
A new American comedy television series, Not Safe with Nikki Glaser, premiered on Comedy Central on February 9, 2016. It's produced by Brillstein Entertainment Productions, Convy Entertainment and Guinea Pig Productions, and executive produced by Nikki Glaser, Chris McGuire, Alex Murray, Brad Vetrigala and Chris Convy. Nikki Glaser is the host.
Not Safe with Nikki Glaser is about sex, and nothing but sex. The host is a stand-up comedian who discusses various aspects of sex with her guests in an outspoken, salacious, shameless and, of course, hilarious manner. Glaser describes herself as a “curious perv”, and the subjects vary wildly. The guests have an opportunity to share personal experiences, joke around and, perhaps, learn a few things.
Viewer reception and renewal prospects
The ten fast-paced half-hour episodes of the first season contain taped segments, social experiments, interviews that test personal boundaries as well as the bounds of what may or may not be covered on television. Not Safe with Nikki Glaser has a 50% Rotten Tomato rating and a 6.2/10 on IMDb, which corresponds to mixed to positive reviews. The series premiered to 495,000 viewers, picking up after the first episode and averaging 524,000 and 536,000 viewers for the next two episodes respectively. The fate or the series might go either way, and it would be wise to monitor the premiere season's ratings further and wait for the network announcements. Hopefully this no-frills frank discussion of sex with the quick-witted host will continue on Comedy Central.
Latest news
UPDATED November 13, 2016: Some unfortunate news for the fans – following just one season on Comedy Central, the adults-only talk show Not Safe With Nikki Glaser has been canceled by the network. The decision comes as somewhat surprising, since the first installment episode order was actually extended from 10 to 20 episodes, but the viewership numbers of approximately 0.5 million fans per episode apparently failed to impress the producers. Glaser's collaboration with Comedy Central, however, may continue, so please stay tuned, and we will inform you if anything interesting comes up.
