About the series

Yankee Jungle is a documentary series that is broadcast on Animal Planet since November 29, 2014. The current second series aired on January 23, 2016. It is produced by Lone Wolf Documentary Group.

The series portrays the life of caretakers and animals at the Maine family-run zoo owned and operated by Bob and Julie Miner. The wildlife sanctuary owners refused to participate in a typical reality-style series, where scripted bits of conversation and staged events are an inevitable part of the show. However, a docu-series format was acceptable to them and the production crew was allowed into the extraordinary zoo with over 200 animals – among them a 30-year-old gibbon and other monkeys, kangaroos, camels, wallabies, a number of wild cats and other unwanted or disabled animals.

I had the pleasure of visiting DEW Haven yesterday, and I have to say that it was an experience I'll never forget. It's a shame that the show won't be renewed. The animals looked happy & healthy and behaved as such. I also had the pleasure of speaking with Julie & Bob Miner and found them to be very sincere. What they are doing for those animals is a wonderful thing. The animals in their care can never be returned to the wild, and without Julie & Bob, they would have no future. Animal Planet, whatever your reasons are for not renewing the show (I've heard the scuttlebutt), I along with many others feel you've dropped the ball on this one.

I really like this show. I hope it doesn't get canceled. The entire family works very hard to provide a home for these animals that can never go back to the wild. What they are doing is so selfless. It is just beautiful and gives back to their community as well. It just makes a wonderful, clean family show plus it is educational at the same time. I don't understand why Animal Planet would want to take this away from the public.
