Series info and plot

Mad Dogs is a new American psychological thriller and black comedy television series that premiered on Amazon in its entirety on January 22, 2016. The pilot originally aired on January 15, 2015, and its success led to the 10-episode first season. The series is produced by Left Bank Pictures, MiddKid Productions, Amazon Studios with Sony Pictures Television. Executive producers for Mad Dogs are Shawn Ryan, Cris Cole, Marney Hochman, Andy Harries, Suzanne Mackie and Charles McDougall. The comedy series is based on the eponymous British series, which was also authored by Chris Cole.

The story portrays a group of four 40-something college friends – Joel (Ben Chaplin), Lex (Michael Imperioli), Gus (Romany Malco) and Cobi (Steve Zahn) who share a rather strained history in their past – coming to visit their friend Milo (Billy Zane) at his mansion in Belize. What follows is a series of hilarious events, dark secrets exposed and many things going wrong in the dubious set of circumstances. All of a sudden the paradise vacation turns into a nightmare with drug lords, murder and police chases.

Reviews and renewal prospects

The series have garnered mostly positive reviews, and holds a 7.4/10 score on IMDb. Many critical reviews note the repetitiveness and the all-too-familiar quality of the middle-age crisis revelations and accusations, and the predictable plot. The British series seemed to have had more universal appeal, but the US adaptation is not devoid of charm either, and may very well be continued.

Latest news

Updated March 2, 2016: Shawn Ryan, executive producer of Amazon's Mad Dogs, tweeted that the thriller series will not be continued after the first season. Ryan thanked the viewers and mentioned that Mad Dogs was not originally planned out as a multi-season series. However, when the possibility of a renewal was discussed, the series' creators and Amazon producers were not able to come to an agreement over where the second season might take the audience. It is an unfortunate for the viewers, since many have enjoyed the show, and the viewership statistics have been excellent.

I've yet to come across a series that has over 25,000 viewer ratings (and these are just those who took time to rate it) with the overall rating of 4.75 stars out of 5. Seriously, what on Earth could possibly explain the reason NOT to commit to several more seasons?
It can't be the following:
1. Season 1 totally bombed. NOPE
2. Lack of funds to finance another series. NOPE - not after the pot of gold earned for
Season 1.
3. Fears of less viewers if series continued. NOPE, more likely they'll have triple the number
of committed viewers.
4. Better prospects to fund that would exceed the sensational earnings than Season 1 of
Mad Dogs. NO WAY, JOSÉ!!

Insanity is the only reasonable explanation. I'm all ears for any reliable information that led to the decision to cancel Season 2 and more.

INSANITY has to be the only logical explanation. I'm so disappointed about their decision smh. This series was the best series I've seen in awhile. Hopefully they move on Netflix or Hulu lol
