About the show
Make It Pop is a Canadian children's sitcom musical television series broadcast on Nickelodeon since March 26, 2015. The second season of the series has aired on January 4, 2016 with a preceding special airing on December 5, 2015. The series is filmed in a telenovela style and inspired by K-Pop. It is created by Nick Cannon and Thomas W. Lynch, and executive produced by Nick Cannon, Thomas W. Lynch, Steven DeNure and Anne Loi.
The series follows the life of three teenage girls at a boarding school who form a K-Pop-inspired band called XO-IQ and deal with the regular teenage issues on the way. There is romance, fun, friendship and, of course, music. Sun-Hi Song (Megan Lee) is a fun-loving free spirit on her way to stardom, Jodi Mappa (Louriza Tronco) is the independent one, and Corki Chang (Erika Tham) is the bookworm. DJ Caleb Davis (Dale Whibley) is the band's DJ and their friend who assists them on their musical journey and otherwise. There are two complete musical numbers in each episode, and the band actually makes off-screen appearances.
Ratings and possibilities of renewal
The show has a 6/10 IMDb rating, with viewer reviews that vary immensely, from accusing the series of being blatantly racist to positive ones that praise its emphasis on admirable aspects, such as the girls' camaraderie, good performances without any sexual overtones, which, unfortunately, is not always the case with teenage series. Make it Pop is Nickelodeon's #1 show in the K6-11 and G6-11 demographics.
