Series info, plot and cast

Suspects is an unscripted British police procedural TV series airing on Channel 5 since the original release date on February 12, 2014. It is currently in its fifth series, which premiered on August 3, 2016. The series is produced by Newman Street.

The series follows three London detectives DS Jack Weston (Damien Molony), DC Charlie Steele (Clare-Hope Ashley) and DI Martha Bellamy (Fay Ripley) as they investigate a wide variety of crimes. The crimes are solved in a documentary style, and the actors don't actually have a script. The basic structure of the plot is described to them, and they take it into their own hands with improvisation of dialogue and emotional reactions. The main cast went through a several week long police workshop with a retired officer in order to prepare for the filming, and learned many important aspects of police work, such as interviewing techniques, terminology and other general and technical aspects that might not be widely known to the public.

As most others, just watched all 5 series over a few nights, my wife and I thought it was fantastic, great cast and storyline, you MUST make another series. British crime drama at it's best, gritty and suspenseful. 5 stars!

Came across it accidentally watched the first episode. That was it my life was completely taken over. Watched all 5 seasons in literally 3 days. Gutted to see no season 6.

Just found this crime series, and like everyone else on here, we binged watched all 5 series! What a triump of TV! Only found out it was unscripted after we had watched it, so congratulations to all the cast for such brilliant, incredible acting. I haven’t enjoyed anything so much for years.
Please make another series!

Just binge watched this series, hadn't seen it when first released. One of the best crime series I have watched then to find out its unscripted.. ...... tv at its best. Great concept, well cast and sublime acting yet it was Canned. Makes no sense when there are so many mediocre shows on TV.

Just finished binge watching all 5 series of this show. It what compulsive viewing. So disappointed it has been axed when you consider some of the rubbish that is being shown. I love a crime series and don’t ever remember seeing it in the schedules? The fact it was improvised really showed in the ‘normal’ conversations the cast had with each other.

Have just watched all series of Suspects, can't believe I didn't come across it earlier and also can't believe it's been shelved!! The best crime drama out there with phenomenal acting. Congratulations to all the cast you were amazing. Absolutely criminal that it has ended.

This is one of the best crime series I have watched. It’s binge worthy. The acting by all who has been on the show is top shelf— from the cast to guest characters. Why in the world this was cancelled is an absolute mystery to me. It was so well done on so many levels.

I agree that this is a great series. Learning all dialogue is improvised makes it even more impressive. Also, while I liked the Martha Nelly character, the fifth season mini series made. me like ve the new team and especially want to cheer for Charlie in her new position. Is love to see another season but gather after so long the actors have likely moved on. 😟

I just finished to watch for the second time the 5 seasons of this series and I really think it's one of the best crime series I've ever seen. The lack of script makes it incredibly lively and the acting is fantastic!
I can't understand why it was canceled, but pls bring it back!

Just finished binge watching Suspects. I can’t believe it has been cancelled. It is by far one of the best British crime shows I have ever seen. I would rate it#2 with Luther #1. A strong, diverse group of actors with women in prominent roles. Strong story lines and exceptional, gripping suspense. Please bring it back.

I, too, am so disappointed the show won't be renewed. The plots and acting (unscripted!!) are superior to anything put out on American TV. I've binge watched all 5 seasons and am going back to the beginning to start all over. Come on, bring it back, please!

I just watched season five of Suspects and can't understand why it was canceled. I understand it's 2021 now but still... No superior acting or plots like this on American TV. Nothing to compare with British and other European TV. We are just not as intelligent as Europeans when it comes to excellent Crime Drama. Shame.

I just don't understand why this series would be cancelled! It was consistently highly rated, a really excellent drama, ever actor was superb. It was intense, compelling, addictive AND it was set up perfectly for a continuance of series with a new head of team, Alisha Brooks; Jack and his daughter storyline need to be followed; Charlie's (who I love!) pending promotion; new guy Gary; even Drummond who I suspect would create more problems for them from prison. It's just beyond me why they left this perfect set-up for a new series/more episodes and cancelled it. I will never understand it.

Please bring back this show. I just discovered it last week and I am on the last episode of Season 5. It has taken over my life! And I don’t don’t want it to stop.

"Suspects" has been enthralling entertainment like a book I can't put down. A real page turner. Maybe I'm asking too much of a TV show to resolve loose ends. In my mind I would think an unscripted show could be quite taxing. As taxing as life itself. So, that's it life's loose ends are rarely neatly resolved. Thx for the experience of "Suspects".

I also ask that you bring so many Suspects fans a season 6. This is quality TV, well written, well acted and so many twists and turns you have no idea who the suspect is. Good quality shows like this one on BBC, PBS are what I look forward to and everyone I know too. Vera, Death in Paradise, Father Brown, Suspects, of course, London Kills, Murdoch Mysteries, Shetland are engrossing, intoxicating, hold your interest and are intelligent and thought-provoking. There is so much garbage on TV so I look forward to these phenomenal shows. Thanks.

I just found out it’s unscripted. Not well-written, well-improvised. Kudos to the cast for their excellent work. I am sorry there is no season 6. The death of DCI Bellamy was a shocker.
