Series information and storyline
Badlands, Texas is an American criminal documentary television series that premiered on National Geographic Channel on November 24, 2015. It was produced by Original Productions and is filmed in Terlingua, Texas.
The town of Terlingua in Texas is a tiny place with a handful of freedom-loving and somewhat eccentric residents. Everyone knows each other very well, life is settled and ordered. In the midst of this close-knit community a mysterious murder happens, horrifying the people living there. The town's loyalties become divided between the victim and the accused, and life in Terlingua will probably never be the same again.
Most of the episode time is taken up by first-person accounts and commentaries, and with glorious shots of the Texan badlands. Some of Terligua's residents were skeptical about the show's concept, suspecting it of wanting to exploit the tragedy that happened in their town and refused to participate. The series' editing is a bit on the slow-paced side, but that actually gives it a reflective quality.
Renewal predictions
Will we see more of Badlands, Texas in the future? It would be strange if there were no closure for the homicide issue at the end of this season, but there certainly might be other mysteries waiting to be investigated if not in Terlingua, then in the larger general area known as Badlands, Texas, the haunting and sparsely populated area in West Texas. National Geographic has not made any announcements regarding the future of the series.
