About the series
Drifters is a British situational comedy television series that premiered on October 31, 2013 on E4. It is created and written by Jessica Knappett, who also stars in the series, and executive produced by Simon Wilson, Damon Beesley and Iain Morris. The show's fourth series debuted on October 10, 2016.
Three twenty-something feisty university graduates and long-term friends Meg (Jessica Knappett), Bunny (Lydia Rose Bewley) and Laura (Lauren O'Rourke) search for decent jobs, half-decent housing and worthwhile love interests in Leeds. Their quest for the better things in life usually turns into something humiliating, traumatic or plain ridiculous for the friends, but it is always hilarious. The clueless girls go plenty of dates, sell their clothes online to pay rent, prowl a wedding for a potential partner... what don't they do in their search for happiness. Nothing seems to quite come together for the flaky threesome, but it doesn't completely fall apart either, and watching the characters balance on the edge is quite a spectacle.
Current series and chances of renewal
Series four portrays Meg, Bunny and Laura as they continue drifting through their life, in and out of trouble, in and out of love, and in and out of work. The current installment starts off with a sexy Halloween party planned by Laura going out of control, and further episodes are full of more crazy adventures, from renting out the flat to detoxing and Bunny becoming a relationship guru. They are still drinking their way through the perpetual crisis that they find themselves it, so the show is just as much fun to watch.
Drifters has been accused of being unrealistic, but Knappett claims that many of the episode plots are straightforward autobiographical. In spite of the mixed reviews that the raucous show has received, due to what some critics called paper-thin characters and a somewhat sluggish storyline, the series has been attracting a solid 0.5 million viewers per episode over the course of its run, and continues to enjoy popularity in its current installment. It seems that the chances that E4 will decide to give Drifters another chance are pretty high, as it truly is full of character and laughs.
