UPDATED July 26, 2017: It has been a little more than a year since Season 4 of East Los High was made available on Hulu, and while the streaming platform has made a decision not to renew the show for Season 5, it has just announced that it will air a Special Finale episode on Friday, December 1, 2017. This finale event was developed for the show’s loyal fans who have been campaigning on various social networks to get some closure.

Storyline and cast
Produced by Carlos Portugal, East Los High is a critically acclaimed American teen drama television series that follows a group of Latino teenagers living in East Los Angeles. As Hulu’s only series that features an all-Latino cast (as well as all-Latino writers and creators), the show stars Janine Larina, Gabriel Chavarria, Vannessa Vasquez and Alicia Sixtos. The show has originally premiered in 2013, and the current 12-episode fourth season of East Los High was made available in its entirety to Hulu Plus subscribers on July 15, 2016.
The first season tells the story of Jessie – the only child growing up in a single-parent household in East Los Angeles, a geeky junior with a crush on the school's most popular boy, Jacob. Her cousin Maya is a troubled runaway who moves into Jessie’s home and develops feelings for Jacob as well. Throughout the course of four seasons relationships are formed and broken, and such issues as peer pressure, sex, drugs, single parenthood, infidelity and pregnancy are explored in depth. The sizzling fourth season is mainly devoted to the adventures of the Bomb Squad dance crew at the elite dance camp.
Reviews and renewal potential
Although the show have had some changes in the cast, it features the same school and idea – teenagers dealing with serious issues. Not just a soapy teen drama, East Los High is a realistic look at relatable people and problems. Romantic, somewhat mysterious and definitely full of drama, this series targets both teenagers and their parents. The show enjoys a solid 7.4 IMDb rating and critical acclaim, and it doesn’t look like the producers are planning to slow down. With four seasons already out, the series is already the longest-running Hulu original series, and hopefully, we will see East Los High season 5 some time in the near future.
