UPDATED October 4, 2017: It is official now – having wrapped up its fourth season in March, Sleepy Hollow will not be coming back with Season 5. The mystery drama series has been officially cancelled by FOX. Starting with the second installment, the show’s ratings continued to decline and adding new characters (Oona Yaffee as Molly) in the fourth chapter didn’t improve the situation, unfortunately.

Basic info and storyline

Sleepy Hollow is an American supernatural drama TV series that is based on the classic novels by Washington Irving, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle. In this series a modern-day Ichabod Crane is revived 250 years after being killed. He is subsequently paired up with a police officer familiar with supernatural experiences in order to try and stop the Headless Horseman and the other three horsemen of the Apocalypse. The series began to air on Fox in September of 2013, with season 4 premiering on January 6, 2017 with 13 new episodes.

Due to a spell cast over a battlefield during the American Revolution, the Headless Horsemen is resurrected together with Ichabod Crane by someone unknown and begins to wreak havoc on the town of Sleepy Hollow. Detective Abbie Mills is put on the investigation of the Headless Horseman case after he beheads the local Sheriff. During her investigation, she and Crane form a bond and try to stop the bloody rampage together. The two must be quick, as the awakening of the Headless Horseman is just the beginning of the coming of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Current season and renewal predictions

Significant changes are in place following Abbie's death in the season 3 finale in the shape of a new female lead, Anna. She is an ex-military officer, a single mom of an 11-year-old girl and a convinced skeptic in supernatural matters, resembling Scully from The X-Files. Additionally, besides the departure of regulars Abbie Mills, Zach Appelman, Nikki Reed, Shannyn Sossamon, Lance Gross and Jessica Camacho, the following changes are in place in the current fourth season – the new D.C. setting and Janina Gavankar (True Blood) and Jeremy Davies (Lost) joining the cast.

For goodness sake, this is a brilliant show with witty and amusing dialogue not to mention extremely well written episodes. Are you only going to cater for [censored]s with no gift of imagination? This show is entertainment and is followed by so many people. Give it a chance and try listening to your audience. We want it to continue PLEASE!

We can beg all we want but, Its over. Its so sad, I have been missing the show so much... The chemistry of ALL the actors involved in SH was just MAGICAL... So sad to know that the characters will never be seen again... Its a [censored] shame, it really is ?

I am completely flummoxed ... Fox makes the undeniable error of once again taking a successful show and changing the night and time slot repeatedly, thus making it difficult for fans to follow. It is entirely too fun to experience Ichabod Crane's observations of our insane world; to appreciate a gentile man and his mannerisms; not to mention a big "Hurray" for the eye candy visuals! We don't need more reality (?) ... we need to escape from what we see every day.
Since the realm of fantasy and magic offer boundless opportunities ... bring Abbie back on "ALL HALLOWS' EVE" (10/31/17) ... maybe during a road trip to Salem Mass. Make it so!

To the "Author" of this article: The new female lead is "Diana" NOT "Ana."

As for renewal, ABSOLUTELY RENEW!! Nicole wanted to leave halfway through Season 2 so let her go. Season 1 was mainly Abbie's story with Crane's "time travel" to the 20th century treated as a 2nd banana to Abby's meeting with the supernatural. Season 2 then delved into Crane's background during Revolutionary times along with his family and background story. Nicole had no objection when Season 1 was primarily about Abby but "didn't like" how the character was treated not even halfway through Season 2? Sounds like somebody who wanted the spotlight always about her so - again - let her go. Sleepy Hollow is fabulous and deserves the Season 5 renewal.

I miss Abby but do like the new characters. i don't like where the story line is going. It is becoming very confusing a witness becoming one of the four horsemen and later him giving his soul to Satan I am hoping it stays fun but not too dark. The characters are changing too much I hope Molly and her mom stay in the story line I hope Abbey comes back in a cameo. If Crane leaves I will not watch.

I liked season 4, I like the new characters. I did not care much for Abby but I like her sister Jenny. Jenny is smarter and has more strength in her personality. The new partner for Ichabod to me is more entertaining. I just think this is the best season since the show started. Season 1 and Season 4 is my favorite. There was a lot of history but more magic as well. I hope the show continues.

Don't shoot me, as much as I did like Abby it was time for her to move on and she wanted to. I was intrigued by the way the last show ended and I look forward to a new beginning in January. I was totally sick of Pandora and thought those plots were weak. Did not care for her or her "boyfriend".

I love Abbie Mills as played by Nicole Beharie. She presents such a REAL character and PERSON, tough as nails but also tender with a good heart. I'll give the show without her some rope, but I think it'll wind up hanging itself without her . And, yes, the great chemistry between her and Crane will definitely be missed!

I am a religous watcher from the beginning. Abbie mills is a main character. To replace her would be a mistake. I will with great reluctance watch the new season premire, but most likely lose my interest just like in soap opera shows when they are constantly recasting the characters. PLEASE BRING ABBIE BACK!

My husband and I love, love, love Sleepy Hollow! The story line is awesome and it follows the history of our country in a way that you can almost believe this is a true account of our history!! Don't get crazy and change too much or kill off too many people. We loved Abbie and since this is TV, she can return. And we hope the other officer returns that is still possessed but fighting the demon. Also Crane's son and wife need to touch base from time to time. Don't forget the original characters from the beginning...it gives the story line continuity. But remember, the main killer of a show is to keep changing the day it is on!! Pick a day/time and leave it alone. We hope to watch this show for many years to come. So much story to tell. Please keep Sleepy Hollow on!!

John Q First of all you don,t know me or what you are talking about this is not a classroom to collaborate on each others opinions this is a review for fans in the comfort of their home to relate to the creators about the show not for fans to relate to fans if you did not see the fourth season of sleepy hollow which you haven,t how can you say that Abbie,s replacement will not be just as good as she was I love abbie,s character and hope very much for her return but it,s only a tv show not reality get it as they described her as an ex-military officer that should say she,s a good fighter and the next witness that,s enough so wait to see the show first before you judge.sign out.

For those of you begging for this show to return, that's just what it WILL Do even though Fox really didn't want to do it, you'll get your wish but I think this will be the last go round for the show.
Also, if you seriously think or feel that Nicole's character can or will be replaced, perhaps you should take off those rose colored glasses and come back to reality now. For those of you who never liked or maybe even hated her, this new actress might be to your liking (but I have a sneaking suspicion...).
Lastly, as some have already stated, "Friday night" moves in T V Land are generally a deathnell (especially for Fox), when stations want to finish off a series and since Fox has placed 'SH' there, they just might be hoping for the end to come sooner rather then later (and they just might get there wish).

Why can't they bring Abbie Mills back, I mean Sleepy Hollow has supernatural beings in it that have been dead for hundreds of years. They brought Ichabod Crane back to life. Can't they use the same magic that brought him back to life to bring Abbie Mills back to life?

Scott Kendall, of course they could bring her back but this has gone to far already, and very sadly just like my beloved "Person of Interest" with Taraji's dreadful and seriously mistaken departure, I DON'T see that happening here either. As with making Taraji the scapegoat, the almost exact same thing has now been done with Nicole (NOT surprised by that).
In the mean while, I really don't intend to waste any more time here, but wish those staying behind well along with the actors/actresses and other cast members. I'm out.

Sleepy hollow was truly and still is my number one tv show from beginning to end but I,m really hurt about Abbie she was a super character along with Ichobode it won,t be the same without her I,m sure her replacement will be just as good can,t wait for season 4 thank you for continuing that great show keep me informed. First I would like to say that I really love this show; however, I was disappointed that Abby's character was killed off the show I really wish that there was a way that she can come back, but since she is not coming I hope that the person who is to replace be just as good as Abby's character. If not I will be very disappointed, because I feel that she cannot be replaced. I hope that season 4 keeps me as a fan of Sleepy Hollow.
