What immediately pops up with this sitcom is the fact that it boasts incredibly strong overall approval ratings all across the board. IMDb currently rates the show at a solid 7.5 out of 10 stars, TV.com gives it a whopping 8.6 out of 10 stars, Common Sense Media rates The Middle at 4/5 stars and 87% of viewers on Rotten Tomatoes liked it so far. The viewing figures are also very impressive. The season 1 premiere originally kicked off to an audience of 8.71 Million people and despite a slight drop in viewership during subsequent episodes, by season 2 the numbers actually rose to well above 10 Million viewers for some episodes and averaged around 8+ Million almost consistently all the way up until the eighth installment. The latest and final season 9 premiered to an audience of 6.21 Million and now averages 5.86 Million per episode. These numbers are obviously not the reason why ABC decided not to renew The Middle for Season 10.

Storyline and cast
The Middle is an American comedy television series created by the former Roseanne and Murphy Brown writers Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline and is produced by Blackie and Blondie Productions and Warner Bros. Television. The show originally debuted on ABC back in September 2009 for its very first season and has since been renewed for overall 9 installments, with the latest run kicking off on October 3rd, 2017. Apart from the previous season 8 with just 23 episodes, every chapter contains 24 episodes. The network announced in January 2017 that the ninth season will also be its last.
The series follows a middle-class family in Indiana, with its daily struggles of managing work, home and raising children. Devoted wife and mother, Frankie (Patricia Heaton), is a middle-class, middle-age, Midwestern American woman who is a true superhero of the 21st century. Her children are the popular, but under-motivated jock, Axl (Charlie McDermott), the socially awkward but enthusiastic daughter, Sue (Eden Sher), and the introverted and very intelligent youngest son, Brick (Atticus Shaffer). Frankie uses her sense of humor to steer her family through life’s ups and downs, at the same time tackling her career goals as a dental assistant and trying to get more affection out of her husband, Mike (Neil Flynn), who is the stabilizing influence of the family.
