New Tricks is a British comedy and drama television series that follows the members of a fictional Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad (UCOS) of the London Police. Produced by Headstrong Pictures for BBC One, Series 12 of the show was released on August 4, 2015 in the UK.
Starring Tamzin Outhwaite, Nicholas Lyndhurst and Denis Lawson, New Tricks follows the UCOS led by Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman and three retired police officers – Gerry Standing, Jack Halford and Brian Lane – who are trying to investigate crimes that were thought to be unsolvable. When Pullman is put in charge of the UCOS she finds herself alone, with no one to help her. So, she decides to pull three of the London’s finest out of retirement and work with them on solving decade-old crimes. But times have changed and it’s not like the old days. The old dogs have to learn new tricks in chasing criminals and solving cases.
Since the series first premiered in 2003, New Tricks has been extremely popular in the UK and worldwide, and was thought to be one of the most enduring dramas on television. However, it seems that inspiration has run dry and the series ratings have been declining gradually. After the release of Series 12, BBC One controllers Charlotte Moore and Ben Stephenson made a statement that the show will not be returning for another season. It seems that the network wants to make room for something new and fresh to excite its viewers. Unless fans can convince BBC One to do otherwise, we will not be seeing New Tricks returning next year.
The concept is so cool - I really liked when DAC Strickland became more human, closer to the team and started to interact with DCI Miller as well. I really enjoyed this TV show and wished it would go on. More so as the new members develop in a very interesting way - Steve did fit very well, Dan took me some time, but Ted somehow doesn´t fit into this "old copper revival"-thing - he didn´t feel as quirky as the other characters including Gerry Standing.
I am halfway through Season 12 of New Tricks, dreading the day when I have no more episodes to watch! This is the best cop drama on TV! Who says a retired person can’t be funny, or sharp, or interesting! Please bring it back! I thought I would not like the new crew, but I did!
I have watched every episode of new tricks. And I think it’s getting better. The acting is superb. The characters are so different and they interact in ways that are so realistic that I am constantly fascinated with it. I don’t think it’s run out of steam I think the plots are very timely and I haven’t found any other series on British TV that even holds a candle to it. So please bring it back.
I have loved every minute of this series! so entertaining! Am now up to season 10 and dreading reaching the end. Am going to miss these funny retired crazy people!! we want more!!
Love New Tricks, thought I would not appreciate a new UCOS crew, but somehow I took a strong liking to them. Please continue this series, I miss it much!
