Season 7 of The Mindy Project Isn’t Picked Up by Hulu

Sadly, it was announced in May 2017 that The Mindy Project would end after the current sixth season. The show boasts very strong approval ratings with a solid 7.4 out of 10 star score on IMDb, 87% on Rotten Tomatoes and a whopping 4.4 out of 5 stars on Hulu. The strong cast as well as celebrity appearances turned Hulu’s very first scripted Original The Mindy Project into a huge success all across the board. In an Instagram post, Mindy posted a picture of her and Reese Witherspoon filming for the last and final sixth season. It is such a shame that this beloved series will come to an end after this latest installment. We certainly hope to see Mindy Kaling in many other projects still to come.
Basic info and cast
The Mindy Project is an American romantic comedy television series that follows Doctor Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling). Created by Mindy Kaling herself and co-produced by Universal Television and 3 Arts Entertainment, the series first premiered on September 25, 2012 on Fox. Matt Warburton, Howard Klein, Charlie Grandy and Michael Spiller also serve as executive producers. After a three-season run, the network canceled the series due to declining ratings, but in May 2015 Hulu picked up the show for a fourth season and proceeded to renew it for season 5 and 6, which premiered on September 12th, 2017 for its final and last season.
Mindy Lahiri is an ob/gyn doctor working in a small medical practice in NYC, a character based on Kaling's mother. The dynamics among the group of doctors and co-workers are at the center of the narrative as Mindy explores her life, trying to become a perfect woman, finding the perfect man and pursue her perfect happy ending for herself. Danny plays a particularly significant role her life and the love triangle between Mindy, Danny and Danny's fiancée, the usual roommate tension between Colette and Morgan and now a baby all play a big role in this show.
