Summary and plot

Suddenly Royal is a new American reality series that follows an auto repair advisor on his search for his ancestry. Produced by MAK Pictures, the series premiered on September 9, 2015 on TLC.

Suddenly Royal features the life of all-American blue collar worker David Howe as he and his family embark on a search for his family history online. After discovering royal roots, David takes his wife Pam, and 12-year old daughter Grace, on an adventure of a lifetime — traveling 3,000 miles to unveil what it really means to be a modern-day heirs to the throne of the British Isle of Man.

In season 1, David receives invitations from the Duke and Duchess to attend a royal wedding, and tries to convince the local residents of the Isle that he and his family are also royalty. As David faces the trials and tribulations of winning over the locals, Pam and Grace embrace the unfamiliar world of social elites they have suddenly found themselves in.

Having arrived on the Isle of Man, the cast of Suddenly Royal explores ancient traditions and gets acquainted with their surroundings, and even hires an etiquette coach and royal advisor. Stepping into their rightful roles, they host royal garden parties, participate in the World Tin Bath Championship, and sometimes face challenges like getting lost during an RV tour. Despite their dedication, David, Pam and Grace discover that being a royal is a lot harder than it seems. There have been no announcements from TLC regarding a release date for season 2.

UPDATED May 31.2016: A piece of unfortunate news for the fans of the Suddenly Royal reality series that portrayed the lovable Howe family – the show has been canceled by TLC. David Howe, who has accidentally discovered that he is the heir to the throne of the British Isle of Man, has announced the news in an interview on Manx.com, explaining that he doesn't see where the series could have gone in the second season, and that it would become repetitive. It's truly refreshing to see a person who's not fame-crazed and has a fulfilling life beyond the reality show, so his decision is understandable, although it will be sad for the viewers who have enjoyed seeing David, Pam and Grace on screen.

You are so right again! The problem is that TLC is only interested in what THEY think the viewers want. All they had to do is look at the ratings for this show and they would see that it is popular. Let the ratings speak for themselves.

I would like to make a statement on TLC's behalf. We all keep bashing TLC for cancelling this show but I have no idea how the Howe family felt about this. Was it the Howe's who wanted to quit or was this all TLC's doing? Please let me know if anyone actually knows what happened.

If this was the Howe's dsecision then there is nothing any of us can do. You can't make them do something they don't want to do. But if this was TLC's decision then they need a wake up call for cancelling this wonderful show. Please keep me informed.

I am sooooo bummed that there is no season 2!!! It was so nice and refreshing to have a show about family, unity, strength, it's so sad that this gets take. Off the air and that so many other shows that don't have family values, or are fun and interesting. This was like reading an amazing book and your dog eating the last few chapters of your book before you can read them and you don't ever get to find out what happens

It is sad to see the loss of the personal experience with the Howes. Yet it is better to end on a good note rather than not being able to fulfill the potential of the situation. There are very few individuals that can truly make a global change -- and given the right direction the Howes (yes, all three) have been given the opportunity to redefine the future of cultural and global affairs in what I would call a leadership renaissance. I doubt there will be another phenomenon such as the Howes in our lifetime -- I guess I had hoped that they would be able to transcend the novelty and rise to a global stage to redefine how foreign affairs can be a platform to educate world leaders and inspire the least likely of us worldwide. I really hope they can be given the resources to enter the world stage at some point in the future. We have really needed them in a time of crisis -- not as a comic relief, but as a common referent to nourish the potential in all of us.

I am saddened by the news that TLC will not be renewing this wholesome family show, which was such a breath of fresh air. I really enjoyed watching and I do not think a 2nd season would be repetitive. They have so much to teach us about another countries' history, traditions and expectations of those born to "royalty". Not to mention the wonderful family dynamics. So sad to see a show that my children could watch and learn from, and not having to bleep every other word out.

AMEN Brenda! I couldn't have said it better. I'm here in Baltimore. They live in Fredericksberg. I wish I could talk to him. I wonder if he has an email address that I could email him. Maybe we can light a fire under these producers and make them see what a mistake they are making. I know Drew was the one who made the announcement of the cancellation but if he knew what an impact the he and his family had on us and how much we love their family and their show maybe they will reconsider. BRING BACK THIS SHOW NOW!

I am really angry. I and many others want season 2 and more with Drew, Pam and Grace. Don't leave their fans hanging, wondering if they are living on the island, are the people accepting them, what are they doing, did Drew find employment? We want this show to come back, NOW. :sad: yes I am sad about the news that Suddenly Royal is cancelled. What is happening with Drew, Pam and grace. There are many questions unanswered. I too am sick and tired of the stupid comedies, the cop shows, the sex and violence on tv. This show was a good clean witty show, a feel good show like how Cinderella makes one feel as a child and an adult. Please bring this show back.

Well here I am again! I've been receiving comments about this show from other viewers and I cannot agrre with all of you more. It seems the networks don't mind putting on shows that have sex, nudity and foul language bcause that seems to be what sells. Well spare me the smut and bring back this show! There are some of us who still like wholesome shows such as Suddenly Royal! There are unanswered questions and we would like some closure! Who knows some thing might happen and we could even get a Season 3 out of it.!

I completely enjoyed this show about a family on the adventure of a lifetime who were at all times honest and funny. PLEASE bring this show back and give us a refreshing alternative to so many of the inferior reality shows out there season after season.

What a refreshing show. Finally a family that respect each other. No yelling or name calling. A family that truley care about each other. They are funny too.
So please bring it back. Looking forward to seeing if he wins the island peoples hearts. See if they will accept him as their king.
