Storyline and cast

Awkward is an award-winning American teen comedy series currently airing on MTV. Created by writer and director Lauren Iungerich, the scripted show returned to the network for a fifth season, on August 31, 2015.

Awkward follows social outcast Jenna Hamilton (played by Ashley Rickards), a teenager at fic-tional Palos Hills High School, as she struggles with her identity, peer-pressure, boy troubles and fitting in. Exploring the serious and humorous side of adolescence during highly, the show has been praised by television critics and audiences alike, for its writing and realistic portrayal of the central character.

Jenna, Matty (played by Beau Mirchoff), Jake (played by Brett Davern), Sadie (played by Molly Tarlov), Tamara (played by Jillian Rose Reed) and the rest of the cast are back for a two part release of season. Part 5A follows the group from Spring break through familiar high school senior rituals like prom and graduation. In part 5B time leaps ahead as Jenna and her friends prepare for college.

This may seem like the beginning of the end for Awkward, but diehard fans will welcome the latest buzz surrounding the show, that there may be more story to tell. Spoiler alerts indicate that part two of season 5 (5B) may actually signal the a storyline continuation. The show’s producers have been creating noise about a possible comeback with season 6. References have been made to the transition from high school to college as a way of showing how the characters change and possibly set the stage for the next series.

UPDATED February 14, 2016: It has been more than three months since the latest episode of the current season of Awkward was aired, and at last the MTV channel has officially announced the return date for the second half of a fifth season. 12 new episodes will hit the small screen on March 15th at 10/9c. Unfortunately, this will also be the final chapter for the teen comedy series as the network made a decision back in October 2014 to cancel the show, although there are rumors out there that the creators are still holding their breath.

I watched it on Friday and didn’t stop till Monday night but I took a couple breaks on Monday But
YES I NEED TO SEE A HAPPY Efn ENDING 😭😭
I’m 27 now and I watched it when it first came out and everything is still so relatable and I need atleast one more season to be obsessed over !

I won’t even lie. I signed up for a 7 day free trial for paramount+. I stumbled across Awkward and after the first episode I was hooked. I pulled two all-nighters bc I couldn’t quit watching. Tomorrow is the last day of the trial and I had 4 episodes left. I was dreading finishing the last season bc I couldn’t come to terms with the show being over. I just finished the last episode and I’m crushed. I’ve never been this attached to a t.v. Show. I actually hardly watch t.v. Obviously time has passed since the season finale but PLEASE give us more. Maybe a spin off that picks up end of college/ after college?

You can't just end the show on an unfinished storyline there's a lot more to come and cancelling it is a BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!! Everyone who has commented can relate as to why they need to publish a season 6 and cancelling it shouldn't be an option Awkward is an amazing series and it will be even more amazing if a season 6 is created to finish the story of I absolutely love this series it's been a great experience watching to the end but now it's cancelled all for the new shows just to blow up the TVs with new programmes NO!! #TEAMAWKWARDALLTHEWAY if MTV no longer wants to be the contractor of the show then I think some other programme like solarmovie should contract it or Hulu and keep the show so it's not ended on an unfinished storyline don't see why you can get any better than that who's with me!!??? ?????

I feel the same.. they would cancel this but not TEENMOM what a way to teach teens how to be a teen mother! At least Jenna learned from her mistakes and kept moving forward.. teen mom they just keep having more babies and changing men.

Keep awkward going I love it why stop it. Also, this it the show that gets you into their characters and its probably because we all relate . please bring it back!!!!! And I think if MTV doesn't want the show then get a new contracted like ABC or Netflix or Hulu .

Please bring Awkward back!! This show means so much to me. I feel like I grew up with the cast. I related so much to every character. Mainly Jenna. I feel like she is the tv version of me.
This show and this cast have helped shape who I am. This show is literally my life and it means so much to me. Please bring it back. Atleast for one final season. I need answers!! what happens with Jenna and Matty? Jenna and Luke? Tamara and her debt? My imagination is wild but not enough to finish this off. Please please. Bring awkward back!!
