Prime Video has greenlit "El Gato" (working title), a series based on the comic book series "El Gato Negro" by Richard Dominguez. Diego Boneta (known for "Luis Miguel: The Series" and "Father of the Bride") will lead the cast in this bilingual drama series. Boneta portrays Frank Guerrero, the family's black sheep, who becomes entangled in a vast conspiracy upon discovering that his father was a '70s vigilante known as "El Gato." The series, created by Eric Carrasco (from "Foundation" and "Supergirl"), will be showrun and executive produced by Carrasco, along with co-showrunners Turi Meyer & Alfredo Septién (involved in "Stargirl" and "Smallville"). Production is set to commence in Mexico this spring.
"El Gato" follows Frank as he returns to Mexico after his father's death, only to find himself immersed in familial power struggles over his father's business empire. Amid his grief, Frank learns that his seemingly insignificant inheritance – a parcel of land on the border – conceals the lair of a renowned costumed vigilante, his father, "El Gato." Now, Frank becomes the target, forced to unravel mysteries spanning decades and uncover the truth about his father's connections to a contemporary terror plot to survive.
