Apple TV+ revealed that the new limited series "Franklin," featuring and executive produced by the esteemed Michael Douglas, will have its global premiere on Apple TV+. The first three episodes of the eight-episode season will be available on Friday, April 12, followed by a weekly release of one new episode every Friday until May 17, 2024.
Adapted from Pulitzer Prize winner Stacy Schiff's book, "A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America," the series delves into the captivating narrative of Benjamin Franklin's most daring venture. In December 1776, amid his worldwide acclaim for electrical experiments, Franklin faces a crucial moment as the destiny of American independence teeters on the edge. Undertaking a clandestine mission to France, the 70-year-old Franklin, lacking any diplomatic training, persuades an absolute monarchy to support America's democratic experiment.
Despite the challenges posed by British spies, French informants, and unsupportive colleagues, Franklin, fueled by his fame, charisma, and resourcefulness, orchestrates the Franco-American alliance of 1778 and the peace treaty with England in 1783. Regarded as his most pivotal service to the nation, the eight-year French mission is hailed by diplomats and historians as the most remarkable ambassadorial duty in American history.
The cast includes Noah Jupe as Temple Franklin, Thibault de Montalembert as Comte de Vergennes, Daniel Mays as Edward Bancroft, Ludivine Sagnier as Madame Brillon, Eddie Marsan as John Adams, Assaad Bouab as Beaumarchais, Jeanne Balibar as Madame Helvetius, and Theodore Pellerin as Marquis de Lafayette.
