Jon Hamm, known for his role in Mad Men, and producer Shawn Ryan (S.W.A.T., The Night Agent) are collaborating on a live-action television adaptation of the podcast American Hostage. Hamm is set to return to his role from the audio series in this psychological thriller.
American Hostage revolves around the true and chilling story of Fred Heckman, a beloved radio reporter in Indianapolis. He becomes a central figure in a life-or-death crisis when Tony Kiritsis, a hostage-taker, insists on being interviewed on Heckman's popular radio news program. Hamm will reprise his podcast role as Heckman.
The script, penned by Ryan and Eileen Myers of Mad Dogs, was completed before the writers' strike. Now, under Ryan's overall deal with Sony, the project will be presented to streaming services. Ryan envisions the series as an anthology, with each season focusing on a different hostage case.
