Apple TV+ has secured the rights to the new French drama series "Carême," which tells the thrilling story of Antonin Carême, the world's first celebrity chef. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Martin Bourboulon, the series features an all-star cast including Benjamin Voisin as Carême, Jérémie Renier as Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord, and Lyna Khoudri as Henriette. Inspired by the book "Cooking for Kings: The Life of Antonin Carême - The First Celebrity Chef" by historian Ian Kelly, "Carême" offers a captivating glimpse into the rise of culinary stardom in Napoleon's Europe.
In "Carême," the orphaned and immensely talented Antonin Carême dreams of becoming the world's most famous chef and revolutionizing the art of gastronomy. His ambitions catch the attention of the cunning Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord, a political genius who enlists Carême as a spy for France. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century kitchens and opulent aristocratic settings, the series explores the harsh realities of Carême's world as he navigates a treacherous path to achieve his dreams. But as he climbs the ladder of success, Carême must confront difficult choices that could cost him everything.
"Carême" draws inspiration from Ian Kelly's book and is co-created and written by Davide Serino. The series is part of Apple TV+'s expanding French programming, joining the likes of "Liaison," a contemporary thriller starring Vincent Cassel and Eva Green, and the multilingual drama "Drops of God." Executive produced by Vanessa van Zuylen and Dominique Farrugia, "Carême" promises to captivate audiences with its blend of history, culinary arts, and political intrigue.
