Any aviation enthusiast out there will watch this show with a lot of excitement, as the featured aircraft literally are all mighty in their own right. May it be the exceptional engineering behind them or simply their sheer size – these planes are all just impressive and amazing technological feats. As of today, the show boasts a strong overall approval rating of 7.6 out of 10 stars on IMDb and the latest installment looks very much like another successful season. Discovery has not yet released any official statement regarding their plans for a possible Season 5 of Mighty Planes, so stay tuned and we will keep you updated if and when that happens.
General information and cast
Based on the ever popular Mighty franchise by Discovery, which first aired Mighty Ships and then came out with Mighty Cruise Ships, the Canadian reality television documentary spinoff series Mighty Planes originally debuted on the Canadian Discovery network in March 2012 and has since been renewed for overall four seasons, with the latest installment premiering on the network Discovery CA on October 1st, 2017 with six brand new episodes for its current season 4. Mighty Planes hails from the Award-winning in-house Discovery production company Exploration Production and is executive produced by Kathryn Oughtred.
The title of the docu-series is pretty self-explanatory, as Mighty Planes moves away from the mighty ships in the world into the sky and explores the most impressive aircraft ever built. Each episode provides an in-depth look into one of the most amazing planes in the world, including a flying eye hospital as well as the largest passenger jet to this day and includes engineers, ground crews and pilots. The science of aviation plays very much a part in this series and the latest season 4 features the Boeing 747-8F, the Stargazer L-1011, the C-2A Greyhound, the Ilyushin-76, the A400M Atlas and the Twin Otter.
