UPDATED August 16, 2017: While the current season of the supernatural drama is still airing new episodes on the Showtime network, delivering around 0.3 million viewers per episode, the verdict is out – no Season 4 for Twin Peaks. The sad news has been confirmed by the network’s CEO David Nevins who said that the revival was always planned as a close-ended installment. Let’s hope that fans will manage to change his mind.

Background info and returning cast
It’s back! The third season of the super successful iconic crime drama Twin Peaks – aptly subtitled The Return - premiered on the channel Showtime with eighteen brand new episodes on May 21st, 2017. The series is produced by Rancho Rosa Partnership and Showtime Networks and executive produced by the show creators Mark Frost and David Lynch as well as Sabrina S. Sutherland.
Twin Peaks, one of the most iconic TV series of the 90s to this day, still has this mysterious fog about it and one simply can’t shake the weird crime that happened in this strange little town. Not even after all this time, as the new season picks up 25 years after their homecoming queen was murdered. A lot of the original cast reprised their roles, such as Kyle MacLachlan as Dale Cooper/Dougie Jones, Mädchen Amick as Shelly Johnson, Dana Ashbrook as Bobby Briggs, Richard Beymer as Benjamin Horne and even Catherine E. Coulson as Margaret Lanterman (The Log Lady), who had filmed a few scenes before her death in 2015. New and exciting cast members include the incredible Laura Dern, Naomi Watts, Michael Cera, Jim Belushi and Jennifer Jason Leigh amongst many others.
Possible season 4
With the first 18 episodes of the third season running all the way into September this year, we still have a little bit of time, before the question of a possible 4th installment becomes all the more relevant. As for today, Twin Peaks is as strong as ever with a whopping 9.4 out of 10 stars on IMDb and a strong 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The first episode had somewhat of a soft start at its premiere with just over 500,000 viewers tuning into the show, which then grew to 1.7 Million viewers on all different platforms. The network also claimed that it had the most sign-ups to its streaming service ever. If we go by the overall hype over this rebooted series it’s a pretty safe bet that this show could return for a possible season 4.
