It all started on YouTube, around 9 years ago. Now, the reality documentary series Mighty Car Mods hit our TV screens on the Velocity channel, which is all about cars and part of the Discovery Communications network – the No. 1 non-fiction media company. The show premiered on 21st of February 2017, produced, directed and written by Blair Joscelyne aka Moog and Marty Mulholland.
These two Australian guys are YouTube legends. Their career started back in 2008, when they uploaded their first video. That was nine years ago and during this time their fan family grew into crazy numbers worldwide, attracting 2-3 million viewers for some of their videos. Mighty Car Mods is all about modifying cars and Marty and Moog show us in handheld video clips how they go about doing it. But never without a serious amount of humor involved – such as in their episode “How to Zombie Proof your Car” – which can be deemed as a very relevant piece of information for obvious reasons!
Ratings and chances of renewal
What’s different about this car modification series – there are no high-tech super expensive gadgets or tools involved, which are often relevant and prominent in these kinds of shows. Instead, Marty and Moog keep their focus on modifications anybody can do at home in their own driveway or garage. This is obviously one of the main appeals for watching their channel and the fan base gives them ratings as high as 9.1 out of 10 on IMDb. And even though they have now become their own brand with their own channel, website and forum, as well as MCM Magazine, MCM Clothing and even their own music label, they are still independent and want to keep it that way. So far, the show has not yet been renewed by Discovery, but given the fandom and hype around these two guys, who show no signs of slowing down either way, we think it’s only a question of time before Mighty Car Mods gets renewed for season 2.
