Obstacles courses aren’t new on television, but lately they very much seem to experience a huge revival with new (and rebooted old) shows popping up all over the place. The overall rating of 6.4 out of 10 stars on IMDb for Spartan Ultimate Team Challenge might not give that much away in terms of popularity of the show, but the score of 4.2 out of 5 stars on the streaming giant Hulu paints a somewhat more positive picture. In this day and age, where everyone watches television a little differently and more often online rather than live, this is very much a good indication of the current standing of this spinoff series. As of today, NBC has not yet made any official announcement regarding the future of this competition series and at this point it could go either way. Stay tuned and we will keep you informed if and when Spartan Ultimate Team Challenge returns with season 3 or not.
About the show
Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge is an American sports competition program that hails from the creators of the American Ninja Warriors and is based on the similarly titled obstacle race. It is directed by Kent Weed, presented by Dhani Jones, Kyle Martino, MJ Acosta and Evan Dollard. Arthur Smith, Kent Weed, Anthony Storm, Joe DeSena, Jeffrey Connor and Kenneth C. Kolenyi serve as executive producers, and A.Smith & Company is behind the production of the show. Season 2 premiered on June 12th, 2017 with a brand new set of contestants.
The one-mile obstacle course that the contestants have to tackle includes challenges that involve fire, mud and water. Teams of five – two men and two women – are led by the team captains, “elite Spartan athletes” chosen by the show. The teams may consist of family members, friends or co-workers. The sizable grand prize awaiting the winning team is $250,000.
