While concerns about the societal impact of artificial intelligence persist, the film industry seems poised for an influx of movies exploring humanity's uncompromising stance against sentient machines and their complete eradication.
"The Creator," directed by Gareth Edwards and produced by 20th Century Studios, promises to tap into that energy, yet its first trailer stands out for the characters' bewildered surprise when thrust into the midst of a full-blown robot apocalypse.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by nuclear destruction caused by a renegade AI, "The Creator" follows Joshua (played by John David Washington), a bereaved widower and special forces agent assigned to track down the elusive Creator—the entity responsible for activating the world's lethal machines.
As Joshua and his team uncover the possibility that the Creator has devised a weapon capable of ending the war between AI and humans, they embark on a mission to secure it, hoping to regain control of the planet. Unsurprisingly, their search leads them to Alfie (portrayed by Madeleine Yuna Voyles), an unassuming mechanical child whose innocent appearance likely conceals unimaginable power, prompting contemplation on the true nature of being "alive."
